Custom Products Make Music Better and Protect Against Hearing Loss
“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent”
Victor Hugo1802-1885
In our practice it is very common to see patients who are musicians, audio techs and seasoned affectionatios of the performing arts who complain of ringing in the ears, muffled hearing following a concert or gig and yes even permanent hearing loss. Did you know that even instruments that are considered quiet such as the violin actually can put out approximately 88-110dB? Other loud and damaging noise may result from feedback squeals during sound checks, inappropriately –set limiters, and being seated in front of large speakers at a concert or performance.
Ear protection is available that allows the musician, tech or music lover to still hear their music but reduce the liability of losing their hearing. Musician earplugs are an affordable alternative to standard earplugs.
The musician earplug is a custom made plug that has a specific filter for the particular use of the consumer. For example, if the musician is plays a percussion instrument or is surrounded by percussion instruments, an ER-25 would be recommended verses a non solo vocalists who would be better fit with an ER15. Musician Earplugs are comfortable, affordable and when fit properly will protect hearing.
Musicians may also want to consider ear monitors and/or acoustic monitors depending on your instrument. The monitors are plugged directly into the amplification system. A custom plug(s) would be made to fit properly over the monitor for ease of insertion into the ear as well as comfort.
Hearing Doctors of Georgia will assist you with the appropriate ear protection, musician earplugs, monitors and custom made plugs for MP3 and IPOD players.
